VETERINARY ASSISTANT (Companion Animal Hospital)
Part Time (Various days/hours, weekends and holidays as needed)
As a Veterinary Assistant in our state of the art Companion Animal Hospital located within the Helen Woodward Animal Center, you will gain experience and make a positive difference in the lives of many different kinds of animals while assisting Veterinarians with medical prep, surgery and post-surgery animal care. Our Veterinary Assistant team nurtures the wellbeing of every animal in our care by providing food, grooming and assistance with hygiene. As a Veterinary Assistant, you will gain valuable skills such as the ability to perform routine medical procedures (vaccines, fecal exams, medication administration, etc.), cleaning/wrapping/autoclaving surgical packs for the Veterinary team, maintaining medical paperwork and developing professional communication skills as you follow up with clients. Our Veterinary Assistants are provided with the support of an experienced Veterinary team and opportunities for advancement along the way.

Veterinary Assistants start at $18.75-$23.00 per hour. All employees eligible for participation in 403b retirement plan. REQUIREMENTS FOR VETERINARY ASSISTANT
Experience in customer service, animal handling and providing medical/surgical assistance in a kennel environment is preferred. Must be able to safely lift up to 55 lbs. unassisted and have the ability to control dogs/cats who exhibit challenging behavior. Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to prioritize and problem solve are necessary in this role. Must be detail-oriented, and understand that a Veterinary Assistant will often work closely with animal hair/dander. Professionalism, courtesy, tact, and sound judgment are key in this role. Candidate must have the ability to work in both a team and self-directed environment. Employee must demonstrate consistent attendance/punctuality, the ability to maintain a positive attitude and work/communicate effectively with others (including co-workers, adoptive families, and others).
Helen Woodward Animal Center is a smoke-free environment. Smoking is not permitted in any HWAC building or vehicle.
