About you:

• Comfortable speaking to groups of 1-20 people
• Desire to learn
• Interest in any of the following: RBG Kew, ecology, horticulture, botany, chemistry, art, history
• Experience in a visitor facing role, tours etc
• Experience of basic computing software including searching websites and use of excel
• Although not essential, we are particularly keen to recruit volunteers who have fluency in additional languages other than English

What we expect from you:


For this role we are looking for volunteers who are willing and able to commit regularly to a minimum of 3-4, 3-hour shifts per month with a minimum of 2 shifts to take place at the weekend. Volunteer Information Guides are also required to attend relevant training sessions and quarterly update meetings.


Recruitment procedure:


Recruitment for these volunteer roles is carried out when several vacancies become available. Our aim is to provide opportunities for a diverse range of people and in particular volunteers from a diversity of ethnic groups, cultures and age ranges.


During recruitment drives application forms will be matched to the vacancies and those applicants whose availability and interests most closely match will be invited to Kew for the 'recruitment day' on Saturday 15 March 2025. The purpose of the day is to explain in more detail the volunteer role and to find out a bit more about why applicants would like to volunteer.


Applicants accepted onto the Information Guide Programme must be 18 or over and be available to attend training one day a week (Mondays) over 4 consecutive weeks, commencing Monday 24 March 2025 to Monday 14 April 2025 . This will be followed by an assessment of answering visitors' queries and dealing with challenging visitors.
