Job Profile and Description

As a Travel Advisor , your primary responsibility is to design and sell customized vacations to destinations worldwide. You will craft bespoke travel experiences tailored to clients' preferences, ensuring seamless and unforgettable journeys. Leveraging your in-depth knowledge of destinations, travel trends, and industry resources. You will curate exceptional itineraries that enhance customer satisfaction while driving sales and conversion rates.

In this role, you will act as a trusted travel expert, providing personalized recommendations, handling complex bookings, and resolving any travel-related issues. Your ability to anticipate client needs, negotiate with vendors, and stay ahead of industry developments will directly impact customer loyalty and the overall success of the company.

Our busy work environment requires our travel advisors to be able to listen to the customers’ requests, position products, and close sales.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design customized itineraries tailored to clients’ travel preferences, budgets, and interests.
  • Manage client relationships from the initial quote process through booking completion and post-travel follow-up, ensuring a seamless experience.
  • Communicate effectively via phone and email, providing timely follow-ups and exceptional customer service both internally and externally.
  • Drive sales by identifying opportunities to upsell and cross-sell additional services or experiences that enhance the client's travel experience.
  • Handle bookings and reservations with accuracy, ensuring all details are confirmed and aligned with client expectations.
  • Monitor and manage itinerary changes, cancellations, and disruptions, offering prompt alternative solutions.
  • Create and manage small group bookings, optimizing profitability by understanding pricing fluctuations between group and FIT (Flexible Independent Travel) products.
  • Collaborate with suppliers, hotels, and tour operators to secure the best rates and exclusive offers.
  • Stay updated on travel trends, industry regulations, and emerging destinations to provide expert recommendations.
  • Assist in marketing efforts by developing relationships with the marketing team to promote specialist destinations when required.
  • Represent the company as a brand ambassador, internally and externally, including participation in educational destination trips.
  • Meet or exceed sales targets by leveraging consultative selling skills and maximizing conversion rates.
  • Maintain detailed client records to ensure personalized service for future bookings.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, industry regulations, and business standards.

Requirements, Skills, and Experience

  • Extensive knowledge of Europe, Asia, the South Pacific, Central and South America, as well as ocean and river cruises.
  • Passion for travel; travel and geography knowledge is a plus.
  • Proven track record of meeting or exceeding sales goals in a travel agency environment.
  • Passion for delivering exceptional customer service, both internally and externally.
  • Strong relationship-building skills with a focus on enhancing customer experience.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and listening communication skills.
  • Professional, polished demeanor with an upbeat, friendly personality and strong phone etiquette.
  • Proficiency in MS Outlook, Word, Excel, and internet-based tools; experience with GDS (Amadeus preferred).
  • Strong problem-solving, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and adaptable in a fast-paced, performance-driven environment.
  • Reliable with a strong record of dependability and attendance.
  • Flexibility to work occasional overtime, including holidays, as needed.

Education and Qualifications

  • Have a high school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Must be available for travel 2-4 weeks of the year to relevant destinations to build up product knowledge.
  • Must have a valid passport to allow travel outside of the USA

  • Accurate and complete information about our company’s preferred supplier products and services is provided to customers.
  • Good working relationships and coordination exist with customers, staff, and management. Supervisor is informed of activities
  • The Company’s professional reputation as a leader in the travel industry is conveyed and maintained.

Physical Activities and Requirements

  • FINGER DEXTERITY: Using primarily just the fingers to make small movements such as typing, picking up small objects, or pinching fingers together.
  • TALKING: Especially where one must frequently convey detailed or important instructions or ideas accurately, loudly, or quickly.
  • AVERAGE HEARING: Able to hear average or normal conversations and receive ordinary information.
  • AVERAGE VISUAL ABILITIES: Average, ordinary, visual acuity necessary to prepare or inspect documents or products or operate machinery (copy machine, keyboard, etc.).
  • PHYSICAL STRENGTH: Sedentary work; sitting most of the time. Exerts up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally.

Mental Activities and Requirements

  • REASONING ABILITY : Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved instructions and to deal with problems involving a few variables.
  • MATHEMATICS ABILITY : Ability to perform very basic math skills including adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing numbers; the four basic arithmetic operations with money; and operations with units such as inch, foot, yard ounce, and pound (or their metric counterparts).
  • LANGUAGE ABILITY: Ability to use passive vocabulary of 5,000-6,000 words; read at an average rate or higher; and define unfamiliar words in dictionaries for meaning, spelling, and pronunciation. Ability to write complex sentences, using proper punctuation and using adjectives and adverbs. Ability to communicate in complex sentences, using normal word order with present and past tense and good vocabulary.
