Registered Nurse (RN) - Position Overview Position Summary:

The RN is responsible for coordinating nursing care, including:

  • Direct patient care.
  • Patient and family education.
  • Care transitions across practice settings.

The RN follows the Mayo Clinic Nursing Professional Practice Model and adheres to the ANA Nursing Scope and Standards of Practice . This includes planning, implementing, evaluating, and communicating all phases of patient care.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide leadership through preceptor roles, informal leadership, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Delegate patient care based on skill, experience, acuity, and available resources.
  • Mentor and teach staff while participating in committees or projects.
Education Requirements:
  • Minimum : Graduate of an accredited nursing program (baccalaureate, associate, or diploma) recognized by:
    • ACEN (Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing).
    • CCNE (Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education).
  • If non-accredited program graduate:
    • Minimum 1 year RN experience in the last 5 years in a relevant care setting.
  • If graduation occurred more than 2 years ago:
    • Minimum 1 year RN experience in a relevant care setting.
Licensing and Certifications:
  • Current RN License as per state requirements.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) :
    • Arizona/Florida: Maintain competency.
    • Midwest: Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS), certification must remain valid for at least 3 months after the start date.
  • Additional specialty certifications/training as required per unit.
Skills:
  • Strong communication, mentoring, and teaching skills.
  • Leadership ability and quality improvement participation.
Certifications:
  • BLS (Basic Life Support).
  • BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support).
  • Additional specialty certifications as required.
Minimum Degree Required:
  • Associate's Degree or higher from a recognized nursing program.

Duties:
Position Overview: The registered nurse (RN) is accountable for the coordination of nursing care, including direct patient care, patient/family education and transitions of care. The RN supports professional nursing practice across practice settings and across the continuum of care to meet the needs of the patient and family. The RN will function within the Mayo Clinic Nursing Professional Practice Model, which includes accountability for planning, implementing, evaluating and communicating all phases of nursing care for assigned patients. The ANA Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice provide a basis for the practice of the RN. The RN provides leadership through activities such as preceptor role, informal leadership roles, and quality improvement efforts. The RN possesses excellent communication skills; is skillful in mentoring and teaching; and may participate on committees or projects.
