Job Description

The Meter Reader/Operator is responsible for providing accurate and meter reading data and disconnecting service for non-payment. Meter Operators are also responsible for providing professional, courteous customer service and reporting any unsafe conditions for resolution.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Obtains both routine and special meter readings for assigned locations and leave door hangers, where applicable.
• Verify property addresses, meter locations, meter type, meter size, serial numbers of meters and any related transmitting equipment.
• Notes account to alert office personnel of required changes or enters changes in handheld computer or work order.
• Performs service termination on meters up to two inches in size.
• Obtains reads from fault meters following confined space entry procedure.
• Observes field conditions to detect any damage, evidence of tempering, non-registration, etc.
• Serves members of the public with courtesy and professionalism.
• Exerts moderate to heavy physical effort in carrying out tasks weighing less than 50 pounds and extensive walking.

Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or GED certificate.
• A minimum of 1+ years of progressive experience that demonstrates the ability to record accurate meter readings and field activities.
• Working knowledge of current meter reading policies and procedures and codes.
• Working knowledge of detecting signs of damage, tampering and non-registering, etc. creating notes for further investigation.
• Basic data entry and using handheld computers, mathematics and the ability to read maps and navigate accordingly.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Motor Vehicle Operator License.
