Davis & Floyd is currently seeking a highly motivated and experienced Civil and Environmental Engineer to join our team! This position can be based in our Charleston, SC office. We are a multi-disciplined firm that has been providing quality engineering services to our clients since 1954. This candidate will become part of a team that provides environmental and civil engineering services to a wide variety of clients. Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and work on specialized civil and environmental projects for public, industrial, and commercial facilities.
  • Civil Site planning / designs for Industrial Facilities and Site Improvements including stormwater modeling, permitting, bid documents and specifications. Solid Waste experience is a plus.
  • Perform all aspects of site design such as processing surveys, grading, drainage, stormwater management, water distribution and sewer collection, erosion control, SWPPP and reports, as well as project bidding and construction management
  • Check and prepare site plans, designs, reports, and drawings
  • Review data collected through field studies and surveys
  • Assist senior level engineers with project design, project specifications, inspections and report preparation.
  • Correspond with clients and regulatory agencies by phone, in writing, and in person to communicate and establish expectations
  • Conduct construction site visits to monitor progress and other contracted construction services
  • Oversee the work of staff civil engineers and technical subordinates
  • Coordinate and manage daily activities/scheduling of various assigned projects
  • Develop construction cost estimates
  • Apply sound engineering principals to the solution of routine technical problems
  • Review and prepare design computations and quantity estimates
  • Assist design team with ensuring budgets, schedules, quality, and project specifications are met
  • Assist in preparation of presentation material for client meetings and public review sessions
  • Provide necessary coordination and follow-up on the work to ensure quality standards and client satisfaction are met
  • Assist senior engineers by executing additional duties and responsibilities as assigned
  • Solid Waste Management and/or Industrial Wastewater design, permitting, and compliance experience would be a plus.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering required.
  • Minimum of 5 years design experience in site development, grading, drainage, stormwater management, and permitting
  • Professional Engineer (PE) preferred.
  • Knowledge of environmental compliance requirements and development and implementation of programs.
  • Familiarity with federal, state, and local agency regulations
  • Knowledge of engineering and surveying practices
  • Experience managing a wide variety of site development projects, and working with clients
  • Ability to manage and clearly communicate with staff and clients
  • Experience in Autodesk AutoCAD Civil 3D, SEDCAD or SSA
  • Project Management Skills including interaction with local and state environmental agencies, direct communication with clients, and develop internal and external marketing strategies to assist in department growth.
  • Valid drivers' license and acceptable driving record required.
  • A positive attitude and willingness to learn.
