Job Description
JOB SUMMARY:
The successful Data Analyst Intern performs a variety of complex/technical support work and administrative data analysis work on revenue and services across the USA. Identifies external sources of reliable data on charitable giving to not-for-profit agencies. Extracts and integrates data from internal and external sources and prepares technical reports and spreadsheets related to Salvation Army public support in the context of total charitable giving in the US, especially charitable giving for human services charities.
Analyzes data related to Christmas fundraising in the Salvation Army’s four USA territories as well as revenue over the last 10 years. Captures data from the four territories in order to analyze it. Analyzes data for external partners and assesses trends for future improvements. Prepares data and statistical information for media reports, territories, and in-house. Collects and analyzes four NSS reports to determine any trends in service by The Salvation Army.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
Works with the Administrative Specialist-Operations, and the NHQ Digital team to develop a new Christmas reporting system for the 2025 Christmas season.
Performs other related work as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Current College Student studying Finance, Economics or Statistics,
and
Experience in fundraising or analytics setting,
or
any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of mathematical calculations/statistics.
Interest in Nonprofits, fundraising revenue, sources of funding for NPOs.
Good working knowledge of and an ability to work efficiently in Microsoft Office ; experience in Advance Excel and Access preferred; ability to create tables, charts, matrix, and graphs in required software.
Ability to interpret data, analyze results using statistical techniques and provide ongoing reports.
Ability to identify, analyze and interpret trends or patterns in complex data sets with the purpose of understanding or making conclusions from the data for decision making purposes using statistical tools like Microsoft Excel, Access, SPSS and others.
Ability to present reports in charts, graphs, tables and other presentation formats.
Ability to learn the broad scope of section operations and services in order to serve as an information resource and to provide assistance in a timely and effective manner.
Ability to gather, compile, and assemble information into a final product for letters, records, reports, etc.
Ability to build and maintain effective and professional relationships with officers and employees at NHQ and throughout the territories.
Ability to maintain the confidential nature of the section.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
This is an on-site position with free underground parking and lunches offered. The length of the internship will be 12 weeks, commencing on May 12th.
