Job Description

Job Scope

The Certified Water Professional is responsible for operating all or portions of the District facility systems in conjunction with specified operator’s level. Maintain all facility systems to ensure their proper operating condition. Maintain efficient facility buildings and stations for the safe, quick handling of maintenance and repairs. May participate in the routine maintenance activities along with full-time, part-time or temporary helpers, as needed. This position requires the operator to be available for a rotating schedule for emergency on call response. The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $45.00/hour and the Certified Water Professional is also eligible to participate in the emergency call out incentive program and discretionary annual bonus plan. Job Duties

  • Operate water and wastewater facilities to maintain continuous compliance with the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) and the Clean Water Act (CWA) and applicable Colorado regulations regarding reclaimed water.
  • Aid with operation and repair of District facilities such as water operations (e.g., pumps, wells), wastewater operations (e.g., lift stations, pumps) and irrigation system operations (e.g., irrigation pumps).
  • Maintain testing, operation, repair and maintenance record keeping systems including those needed for permit reporting.
  • Provide inspections for construction of new facilities (service taps, water mains, sewer mains, etc) added to the District’s overall system by outside contractors when needed.
  • Assist with meter reading activities in support of water system billings.
  • Assist in general grounds maintenance activities such as snow removal as needed.
  • May supervise fulltime or temporary employees as needed to complete such tasks as routine maintenance, repairs or installation of facilities.
  • Recommend and order parts and materials, arrange for special outside repairs, and special equipment rentals, as approved.
  • Work independently to plan and complete job duties with minimal supervisory direction, including appropriate judgment.
  • Present a professional and positive attitude focused on customer service and teamwork.
  • Expected to maintain a safe working environment for employees and clients. Including following all safety procedures of confined space entry work, road work, construction site work, private residence work and others.
  • Actively participate in team meetings, safety training and other assigned activities. 
  • Other duties as required.

Technical/Professional Knowledge (Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience)

  • Operated hand and power tools
  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Colorado driver's license with clean driving record
  • CPR/First Certification required.
  • Must maintain an active certifications in Water Treatment and Wastewater Treatment from the Colorado Water and Wastewater Facility Operators Certification Board

Work Environment

The Certified Water Professional work schedule may vary. Hours are normally scheduled from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. However, the position is required to work weekends (Sat/Sun) or late at night to respond to emergencies critically impacting the needs of the business and/or customers.

Work is primarily performed in a diverse field setting ranging from open areas, grounds surrounding apartment units, office, industrial and retail space environments and occasionally performed in an office environment in all weather conditions. May incur frequent interruptions and be required to perform work in wet, extreme cold, extreme heat and within permit confined spaces. With regular exposure to heavy vehicle traffic conditions, equipment noise, working with/near moving motorize equipment and hand-tools, mechanical parts, electrical equipment, chemicals, airborne particles and within confined space.

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, stoop, squat, kneel, crawl, and reach with hands and arms and lift objects up to 50 pounds. The employee is required to be proficient in speaking to customers, and have flexible and adaptable vision, including close, peripheral, depth-perception and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to operate company vehicle during the course of duties.
