PAY RANGE DOQ: $29.04 - $46.46/HR.

Position Summary:

Supervisor over the activities of the Streets & Stormwater Tree Management Team. The incumbent assigns work, inspects activities, and supervises a team responsible for the maintenance of City maintained trees. Many activities of this position are dedicated to the safety of residents, drivers, and structures that are subject to tree damages or low visibility. Work is reviewed through oral and written reports, discussions, and results obtained.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plans, schedules, supervises, and assists employees assigned to the Streets & Stormwater Department Tree Management Team.
  • Assigns work, inspects activities, and supervises a crew responsible for the maintenance activities of City trees located in streets, rights-of-way, along waterways, and properties.
  • Facilitates all tree related activities by planning, preparing, maintaining, monitoring, and reporting operational activities.
  • Documents and reports maintenance activities, inspections, and schedules.
  • Assigns, allocates, supervises, and participates in the tasks and work of tree maintenance for Plant City Streets & Stormwater Department.
  • Projects budgetary and equipment needs for department as related to tree maintenance and activities.
  • Tracks the performance of the crews, monitors work, and preforms evaluations.
  • Conducts interviews of potential employees and makes recommendations hiring recommendations to immediate supervisor.
  • Provides safety and job-related training to direct reports and Streets and Stormwater employees.
  • Supports inner department functions, and City related activities.
  • Work on-call or extended shifts.
  • Performs other job duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to inspect and direct activities related to Streets and Stormwater tree maintenance.
  • Ability to plan and maintain work schedules and to obtain efficient results.

  • Ability to plan out maintenance activities, spill cleanup, storm preparation, and direct such activities.
  • Ability to change focus and jobs as needed to support the demands of the greater department priorities.
  • Ability to inspect and direct work related to tree maintenance and removal.
  • Follows directives and ensure work is performed under all related safety guidelines and limits liability.
  • Working knowledge of the methods and equipment used in the maintenance and care of trees.
  • Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of tools and materials used in arboriculture.
  • Knowledge of desktop computer systems, equipment and software, including spreadsheet, database, word, and similar software programs and GPS systems.

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of active tree management and arborist experience. Minimum of two (2) years of supervisory experience.
  • A combination of education, training, and experience may be substituted at the City Manager’s discretion.

Certificates and Licenses:

  • At a minimum, must be currently recognized as a Certified Arborist by the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA). Certified as a Master Arborist by ISA is preferred.
  • FDOT Approved Temporary Traffic Control: Intermediate Course within one year of employment.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver’s license and be insurable by the City’s current insurance provider. Valid Class B Florida Commercial Driver’s License, preferred.
  • National Incident Management System (NIMS) training will be required according to the job duties and responsibilities within one (1) year of employment.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Supervises employees assigned to the Streets & Stormwater Department Tree Maintenance crew.

Emergency Responsibilities:

In the event of an emergency or disaster, an employee may be required to respond promptly to duties and responsibilities as assigned by the employee’s department, Emergency Management or City Administration. Such assignments may be before, during or after the emergency/disaster.
