Position Summary
The Accountant – Internal Audit 2 supports the Corporate Compliance, Finance team as the focal point for all finance and accounting compliance activities of CoServ and its affiliated and subsidiary companies. The position is responsible for assisting in the support, enhancement, and testing of CoServ’s internal control policies and procedures, process and policy documentation, accounting related software, internal audit function, and reporting functions. The Accountant – Internal Audit 2 will support the finance, corporate records, and payroll accounting teams, as well as various other projects as required and directed by CoServ’s Sr. VP & CFO, and the Director of Finance.
Primary Position Responsibilities
Assist in the development, implementation, and management of the organization’s internal control program.
Assist the payroll accounting team and serve as a back-up for payroll operations including bi-weekly payroll, benefit and other deductions, payroll taxes, handbook and policy compliance, month-end close and general ledger accounting associated with payroll and benefit accounts.
Assist in the development of company internal control policies, documentation, and communications.
Assist in the assessment of internal control risks identification, testing and remediation within CoServ.
Perform interviews, reviews, and documentation of current accounting and internal control processes and procedures and assist in the development of new policies and procedures where needed.
Assist in the development and continued enhancement of an internal audit manual/workbook.
Assist in the review and testing of approved policies and procedures.
Assist in the implementation and testing of new software and/or new functionality relative to the payroll, corporate records, accounting and finance departments.
Work with the external auditors as needed.
Work with other CoServ personnel to improve the accounting and finance functions of the company.
Responsible for obtaining and maintaining knowledge of the utility industry.
Assists in preparing financial statements and related supplemental reporting monthly.
Assists in reviewing all journal entries submitted by other accountants, subsidiary ledgers or other electronic interfaces daily.
Posts journal entries to general ledger on a daily and/or monthly basis.
Prepares reports using spreadsheets, accounting software, or other business intelligence software as required.
Complies with established CoServ safety and operating rules, procedures and guidelines including reporting unsafe practices to a supervisor.
Complies with established CoServ Information Security Handbook, policies, procedures, and guidelines including reporting suspected information security incidents to Tech Support.
Secondary Position Responsibilities
Receives training as directed by the CFO and Director of Finance.
Attends safety meetings involving safe office procedures.
Performs other duties and activities as directed.

Position Requirements
Experience, Education and Certifications Required
High School Diploma or G.E.D equivalency.
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
3-4 years of public accounting (audit), internal audit or similar SOX compliance work; or
Minimum of 5 years of accounting, general ledger, or financial reporting experience
Experience, Education and Certifications Preferred
Master's Degree in accounting, finance or business administration
Licensed CPA or CPA candidate.
Utility experience.
Skills and Abilities Required
Knowledge of PC software and spreadsheet applications.
Ten-key by touch.
Must possess excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
Must be dependable, detail oriented and a team player.
Skills and Abilities Preferred
Knowledge of National Information Solutions Cooperative software (NISC).
Knowledge of WEBI XI business intelligence software.
Physical Requirements
Operates office equipment such as a computer, telephone, fax machine, copier, etc.
Indoor, office environment.
Ability to lift a minimum of 25 pounds.
Ability to drive occasionally as needed.
Ability to sit for long periods of time.
Requires frequent sitting, standing, walking, bending, and reaching.
Other Requirements
Must have and maintain a valid Texas driver's license.
