Job Title: Accessibility Tester

Location:- San Antonio TX (onsite)

Duration: 6+ Months

Description:

My team is looking for an Accessibility Tester.

An Accessibility Tester is responsible for evaluating digital products like websites and applications to ensure they adhere to accessibility standards, identifying potential barriers for users with disabilities, and providing recommendations to developers to improve usability for everyone, utilizing assistive technologies and industry best practices to test against guidelines like WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines).   • Conducting accessibility testing: Perform manual and automated tests on websites and applications using assistive technologies like screen readers, keyboard navigation, and color contrast checkers to identify accessibility issues. [1 , 3 , 5]
  • Evaluating against accessibility standards: Analyze test results against established accessibility guidelines (WCAG) to determine compliance levels and prioritize critical issues. [1 , 3 , 5]
  • Identifying accessibility issues: Detect problems like missing alt text, inadequate color contrast, improper ARIA attributes, keyboard navigation issues, and semantic HTML errors. [1 , 3 , 6]
  • Reporting and documentation: Create detailed reports outlining accessibility findings, including screenshots, specific issues, and actionable recommendations for remediation. [1 , 3 , 7]
  • Collaborating with development teams: Work closely with designers, developers, and project managers to communicate accessibility concerns, provide technical guidance on implementation, and ensure fixes are implemented effectively. [3 , 6 , 7]
  • Staying updated on accessibility trends: Keep abreast of evolving accessibility standards, best practices, and new assistive technologies to maintain expertise in the field. [1 , 2 , 5]

Required Skills and Qualifications: [2 , 6]

  • Technical knowledge: Understanding of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and DOM structure to analyze code and identify accessibility issues. [2 , 6]
  • Accessibility guidelines: Familiarity with WCAG standards and how to apply them to digital products. [1 , 3 , 5]
  • Assistive technology proficiency: Experience using screen readers, keyboard navigators, magnification tools, and other assistive technologies to test accessibility. [2 , 3 , 5]
  • Testing methodologies: Knowledge of accessibility testing techniques, including manual testing, automated testing tools, and user testing with individuals with disabilities. [1 , 3 , 4]
  • Communication skills: Ability to clearly communicate complex accessibility issues to technical and non-technical stakeholders, including developers and product owners. [1 , 3 , 6]
  • Attention to detail: High level of accuracy and ability to identify even subtle accessibility concerns. [1 , 3 , 6]

Preferred:

  • Work from San Antonio (in the Assistive Tech & Accessibility Lab)
  • Knowledge of axe DevTools
  • 2+ years knowledge of ARIA
  • 2+ years knowledge of WCAG
  • 2+ years knowledge of Javascript/HTML, front end support
  • Background in Quality Assurance Testing or Design
